November has arrived in the Shoals!
The clocks have gone back, the evenings are getting darker earlier, and the holiday season is right around the corner here in North Alabama. November is a month for football, music, gathering around the table, and taking care of the people around us — and it's also a good time of the year to make sure the things you've worked hard for are properly protected. I'm Britt Blanton, an Alabama-licensed State Farm Insurance Agent right here in Killen. I opened my agency in 2012, and for more than a decade my team and I have had the privilege of helping families and small businesses with auto insurance, homeowners insurance, renters insurance, life insurance, and small business insurance throughout Killen, Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, Green Hill, Lexington, St. Florian, and Rogersville — and across Lauderdale County, Colbert County, the Shoals, and North Alabama. November Around the Shoals There's a lot going on in our community this month, and we hope to see you out at some of it:
• Music in Muscle Shoals: The Muscle Shoals Songwriters Festival runs November 6–8, celebrating the songwriters behind the Muscle Shoals Sound. As a longtime supporter of Shoals-area musicians, it's one of my favorite weekends of the year.
• Downtown Florence: First Fridays wraps up its season in downtown Florence on Friday, November 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with local vendors, food trucks, and live music.
• UNA football: UNA is home at Bank Independent Stadium twice this month — Saturday, November 7 against West Florida at 6 p.m., and Senior Day on Saturday, November 21 against Tarleton State at 3 p.m. Roar Lions!
• Neighbors helping neighbors: 1 Table Florence serves a free Thanksgiving-style meal for everyone on Thursday, November 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mobile Plaza in downtown Florence.
• Honoring our veterans: The Florence-Lauderdale Veterans Day Ceremony is Wednesday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Florence. To every veteran in the Shoals — thank you for your service.
• Thanksgiving and shopping local: Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, and Small Business Saturday follows on November 28. When you shop local in Killen, Florence, and across the Shoals, you're supporting your neighbors — including the many small businesses we're proud to insure.

A November Reminder for Shoals Drivers and Homeowners With the time change, many of us are now driving home in the dark. Deer are active this time of year around dawn and dusk on roads all across Lauderdale and Colbert counties, so slow down, watch the shoulders, and remember that where there's one deer, there may be another right behind it. It's worth knowing whether your auto insurance includes comprehensive coverage for a deer collision — if you're not sure, ask us. We'd much rather explain your coverage before you need it. At home, November means more cooking, more guests, and space heaters coming out of the closet. Keep an eye on what's on the stove, keep heaters away from anything that can burn, and test your smoke alarms while you're getting the house ready for the holidays.
